MAPU

MAPU (2019) was developed as the concluding project for my Photography degree. The work examines the shame surrounding sexual desire experienced by people assigned female at birth.
Initially conceived as an exploration of masturbation and orgasm as forms of self-connection, MAPU has since revealed itself to be a broader reflection on sexual agency and liberation within a normative colonial society where sexuality is often suppressed or regulated. Through this project, I investigate how desire becomes entangled with shame, and how reclaiming it is an act of resistance and liberation.
